After releasing her comeback song "Working For the Knife" back in October and the single "The Only Heartbreaker" last month, Mitski has shared another new tune titled "Heat Lightning." The track will be part of her upcoming album Laurel Hell and arrives with an animated lyric video.
Created by Alex Moy, the dreamy visual for "Heat Lightning" shows off floating furniture, glowing plants, and a smoky volcano on the verge of blowing. Moy is a Brooklyn-based animator whose work has previously been featured on Vimeo (as a Staff Pick and as a Best of the Year winner), File Magazine, and more. He's also done work for Spotify, Google, and The New York Times.
Laurel Hell is out February 4 via Dead Oceans. The follow-up to Mitski’s 2018 album Be the Cowboy, it was recorded with longtime producer Patrick Hyland. Vinyl for Laurel Hell is currently available for pre-order here. More merch - including CDs and posters - can be found on Mitski's official online store.
In other Mitski news, the singer has scored a new Z2 Comics graphic novel titled This Is Where We Fall. She will also be embarking on a mostly sold-out 2022 tour. The few tickets that are left can be accessed here.
