When the agreement for New York City’s WEPN ended, questions arose about the station's future. While the signal is set to be sold to a new owner, what happens in the meantime?
Enter United Stations Radio Network/Gemini XIII COO Charles Steinhauer, who quickly proposed featuring The TJ Show with TJ Taormina on the frequency to build awareness.
The idea stuck, and in just nine days, TJ 98-7, NYC’s first pop-up radio station, launched over Labor Day Weekend 2024. Powered by Live365, TJ 98-7 benefits from streaming, distribution, and licensing support on the digital side – while continuing to broadcast live over 98.7FM in New York City.
“When the publicity first hit for TJ 98-7, the calls, texts, and emails started. People in the media wanted to hear the station,” said McVay Media Consulting’s Mike McVay. “Serving as the programmer, I wanted them to hear the station. That meant finding a quality partner to help us stream the station to the world, provide us with the support and presence representative of a NYC station, and give our audience a top-level listening experience. Live365 did that for TJ 98-7. They’ve exceeded our expectations every step of the way.”
TJ 98-7 plays Hot AC music alongside The TJ Show, which currently airs on over 100 affiliates. TJ, a lifelong radio enthusiast, began his career working various roles in radio, and later became co-host of Elvis Duran’s nationally-syndicated show before launching his own program in 2013. Along with co-hosts JBo, Kenny, Heather, and Josh, the team brings humor, human interest, and positivity to the airwaves every weekday morning. Their tagline, "a daily radio show that still sees hope in humanity," reflects the program's core message.
