After reuniting and performing a recent Coachella set together, 90s rock band Sublime have dropped their first new song in 28 years. It's called “Feel Like That,” and it's a collaborative effort with Stick Figure featuring vocals from late frontman Bradley Nowell, and his son and current frontman, Jakob.
The new song originates from a 1996 jam session between Bradley, Sublime’s bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh. It happened at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in Austin, Texas. The song’s revival was the product of Stick Figure’s Scott Woodruff building a new track out of samples from the original recording.

Gaugh told Rolling Stone, “It was like, ‘OK, now that this is coming together, why don’t we release this song, but let’s get Jake on there.’”
“We are blessed that we still have all these old recordings and that we were able to stumble upon an outtake that has been sitting there waiting for all these years,” Wilson said. “They say timing is everything, and I think they were right! It’s super awesome to hear Brad and Jakob singing side by side on the same track. I’m sure this song is gonna set the mood for the summer.” For his part, Jakob called the song “a beautiful thing.”
Sublime formed in Long Beach, California in 1988. The band's original lineup consisted of Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Eric Wilson (bass), and Bud Gaugh (drums). Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, resulting in the band's breakup. During their initial run, Sublime managed to release three studio albums, one live album, five compilation albums, three EPs, and one box set.
The now-revived Sublime has a few more festival dates this year, including appearances at Point Break Music Festival in Virginia Beach; KC Live! in Kansas City; and Oceans Calling in Ocean City, MD. You can check out the band’s upcoming dates here.
As for more new music, anything is possible. “We’re ready to explore all options as far as recording goes,” Gaugh said “Remixes, new stuff, who knows.”
