Top 10 Bad Bunny Songs
Bad Bunny is currently the pinnacle of the Latin music genre. With his recent Grammy wins, chart success, and new record as the first Latin artist to top the Billboard Artist 100 chart, it kind of feels like he's everywhere right now. So, a Top 10 list regarding Bad Bunny's music has been long overdue.
Bad Bunny (real name: Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer and actor. He started off as a kid singing in a church choir. Then, in 2013, he began posting his own music to SoundCloud under the stage name Bad Bunny; a name taken from a time when the rapper was forced to wear a bunny costume to school and was photographed with an angry expression.
It wasn't long until he was noticed by rap queen Cardi B. His feature on her song "I Like It" in 2018 – as well as his subsequent collaboration with Drake on the song "Mia" – helped him get recognized by mainstream audiences. By 2020, Bad Bunny was crowned the first non-English language act to be Spotify's most streamed artist of the year. And his success has only gone up since then.
For this list, we're taking a look at Bad Bunny's songs from all eras of his career. We'll even be including some collaborations! Get ready to hop around to our sweet countdown of his reggaeton and trap hits below.
10. "MÍA" (with Drake)
Since we just introduced it in the paragraphs above, we figured he had to at least give a nod to "MÍA" – even if Bunny's catalogue has grown stronger since 2018. Truth is, it's a very important song in his career. Drake has introduced us to several amazing up-and-coming acts, and "MÍA" helped put our eyes on Bad Bunny.
In the bubbly-and-boppy “MÍA” ("Mine" in English), Bad Bunny and Drake talk to a woman who is the center of attention. Everyone wants her, but they both remind her that she promised fidelity to them. Bad Bunny teased the song for the first time in April 2017, in a video of his tour of Europe. Several months later, part of the song was leaked. In January 2018, Bad Bunny posted a video with Drake announcing the collaboration. Then in September, the two artists came together again in Miami to record the official video.
9. "Tu No Vive Asi" (with Arcángel, DJ Luian, & Mambo Kingz)
This song is a collaborative effort from Bad Bunny's early days. While Arcángel, DJ Luian, and Mambo Kingz contribute their own work to the track, the heart and soul of "Tu No Vive Asi" feels like it belongs to Bad Bunny.
Intense and braggadocious, "Tu No Vive Asi" is a bad boy track that sees Bad Bunny and Arcángel referencing soccer, fame, and religion. It's ultimately all about power and the fruits of their labor as artists. This banger was released all the way back in 2016, and was certified 9x platinum by the RIAA on April 24, 2019. It's definitely an underrated classic, and a beloved favorite of the hardcore Bad Bunny fans.
8. "Si Veo A Tu Mamá"
In English, the title of this track translates to "If I See Your Mom." It's the opening track of Bad Bunny’s second studio album, YHLQMDLG. Gentle and optimistic, the trap base contains an electronic melody similar to that of video games from the 80s era. It's also a subtle recreation of the melody from the song “The Girl From Ipanema.”
While the sound of "Si Veo A Tu Mamá" is happy, the lyrical content is actually quite sad. In the song, Bad Bunny discusses how he has tried to get over a break-up, but that even though he keeps trying, there are always little things that remind him of his ex. The pain is so bad, that if Benito were to run into the ex’s mom, he would ask about her. The cutesy track also has an equally cutesy music video, which features Bad Bunny singing during a New Year's Eve party in 2000. We gotta say: he rocks the 80s dad look pretty well.
7. "Soy Peor"
Another Bad Bunny oldie, "Soy Peor" was released on December 8, 2016, and was distributed by Hear This Music. The music was produced by Dj Luian and Bad Bunny himself. It's a sultry romp all about how Bad Bunny is doing better than ever without his ex. Maybe if she were still around, she'd critique that he's not doing okay. But without her, Bunny knows he's living his life to the fullest.
When "Soy Peor" was dropped, it quickly began to climb in streams, reaching 10 million in a short time. A few weeks later, the official video was released one day before New Year's Eve. Many consider "Soy Peor" a turning point in Bad Bunny's musical career. Although he previously collaborated with artists already established in the industry, he made the uber-successful "Soy Peor" by himself. It proved that he had major potential as a solo artist.
6. "DÁKITI (feat. Jhay Cortez)"
We guarantee you've heard this made-for-the-summer hit around town! (Or at least around social media.) Fresh, breezy, and bursting with sexy bars, "DÁKITI" is all about Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez trying to pick up chicks while enjoying a party setting.
The song is the third collaboration between Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez. However, it’s the first non-remix they've worked on together, following “No Me Conoce (Remix)” and “CÓMO SE SIENTE (REMIX).” Bad Bunny explained to Apple Music, "We’ve collaborated on remixes, [but] we had never come up with a song from scratch, [from] the both of us, I don’t know. We’re making music to last a long time."
Indeed, this song is as evergreen as it gets, because even two years after its release in 2020, we've still been hearing "DÁKITI" everywhere. Fun fact: the name "DÁKITI" actually comes from a pub with the same name, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
5. "Tití Me Preguntó"
We previously declared this gem a Song of the Summer for 2022. Super catchy and easy to get rowdy to, "Tití Me Preguntó" is one of the best tracks of Bad Bunny's latest album Un Verano Sin Ti. Listening to this bop will make you want to talk to your auntie about relationship advice and take all your girlfriends to the VIP section of the club!
The song sees Bad Bunny talking about all the girls he's loved before: including his kindergarten girlfriend, his first love, a Colombian girl, a Mexican girl, a Barcelona girl who came to see him by plane...and so many more. You wonder how Bad Bunny even has time to make music when listening to how many women from all over the world he's been involved with!
Although "Tití Me Preguntó" is about the swagger that comes with being a player, it does have a tinge of sadness to it. Bunny's auntie critiques him for not being in a serious relationship – let alone married. Bad Bunny also reveals he can't be in a serious relationship because he has a problem when it comes to falling in love. He'd like to, he explains in the bridge, but he just can't.
4. "Me Porto Bonito (feat. Chencho Corleone)"
Another charting success off Un Verano Sin Ti, "Me Porto Bonito" has Bad Bunny declaring to the world just how hot his lover is. But don't get the wrong idea: the title of the song actually translates to "I'll Behave Myself," meaning that the song is about Bunny putting on a gentleman act in order to please his lady. For example: washing her car while her and her friend sunbathe, as seen in the music video for "Me Porto Bonito."
This song features a pretty hard chorus from fellow Puerto Rican artist Chencho Corleone. "Me Porto Bonito" marks the first time he and Bad Bunny have collaborated. On July 28, 2022, at his concert at the Choliseo, Bad Bunny introduced "Me Porto Bonito" live to his fans, with Chencho as a guest. Since then, this track has managed to become a hit sound on TikTok and has hit #1 on the charts for several Latin American countries. We hope Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone work together again soon! Their voices work so well together.
3. "Yo Perreo Sola"
There are a lot of reasons to talk about "Yo Perreo Sola." Besides the fact that this track is a hella hard Latin club anthem, the song is from the perspective of a woman, and is against sexual harassment. In the video for "Yo Perreo Sola," Bad Bunny even brings out his own drag queen character! We love a good feminist and LGBTQ+ banger.
"Yo Perreo Sola" is also (probably) inspired by the murder of Alexa, a transgender woman murdered and left on a side of the road after being harassed in real life and on social media. On The Tonight Show (Feb. 28, 2020), Bad Bunny performed the "Yo Perreo Sola" wearing a shirt that said, “Mataron a Alexa, No a un Hombre con Falda”: thus putting a notice to her heartless murder. At the end of the video to “Yo Perreo Sola” (translation: “I Twerk Alone”), there is a sentence that reads, “If she doesn’t want to dance with you, respect her, she twerks alone.”
2. "Callaíta"
When Tainy is involved, you know the song is going to be a mega success. "Callaíta" is a dreamy and hopeful track in which Bad Bunny talks about the characteristics of a girl. Although she's quiet and meek, she lives a life free of inhibitions and hesitations, both in terms of herself and of people who criticize her. It's a kind of character many people can relate to.
The song is Bad Bunny's first solo song after the release of his album X100PRE and was produced by Tainy, who also hails from Puerto Rico. Tainy has collaborated with Bad Bunny before "Callaíta" and has even played an important role in several of the songs on Bunny's latest album.
Despite the song being finished in 2019, Bad Bunny chose not to include "Callaíta" on YHLQMDLG or EL ÚLTIMO TOUR DEL MUNDO. Instead, “Callaíta” was placed as the last song in the artist's fourth solo project, Un Verano Sin Ti, three years later. We're glad he made that decision, because "Callaíta" is a track that stirs up all the feels. It's a song you can dance and maybe even happy cry to, making it a perfect grand finale for a near-perfect studio album.
1. "La Romana (feat. El Alfa)"
Yes – we did a lot of research for this Bad Bunny list. And yes – we have to give it up to this tailor-made club rager that's basically two songs in one!
"La Romana" is the second collaborative effort between Bad Bunny and El Alfa, and was released in 2018. The song includes the two musical genres where both artists have achieved fame: trap and dembow. There's no specific theme to "La Romana"; it speaks of women, success, and the lifestyle of both artists. Instead, the song lets the masterful music production do most of the talking.
And who contributed to that music production? Why, no other than Tainy! When Bad Bunny and Tainy work together, their creations are truly electric. One time on Instagram Live, Bad Bunny talked about all of the songs on his album X100PRE. He pointed out that one track in particular was his absolute favorite:
"I love them all, but La Romana, wow," he said. "The La Romana track is a sampling of a classic bachata, then I give it to Tainy, he improved some details, and there I communicate with El Alfa and I tell him that I want a dembow for my record and “Fuego” (“Fire”) came out, “Fuego” (“Fire”) was made by El Alfa, I did not want to fail and I did not want to invent a dembow, so I called El Alfa, he handed me the dembow, thanks for participating in this project, I love El Alfa a lot, I love how it works, it has remained focused on a goal and is achieving it."
Seriously: that "fuego" chorus is truly one of the most hard-hitting bits we've ever heard in Latin music. And if we had to describe "La Romana"? We'd say it's straight fire.
