2021 MTV EMAs Preview: What to Expect

The 2021 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) will broadcast live from the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna in Hungary on Sunday, November 14. The EMAs will resume to an in-person event to celebrate the best music of the year and honor top artists not just from Europe, but from all over the globe.

The theme of this year's show is “Music for ALL.” Bruce Gillmer and Richard Godfrey are executive producers. Debbie Phillips and Chloe Mason also serve as producers.

World-famous musicians - like Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Saweetie, Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, BTS, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, and many more - will be in attendance. Below is all you need to know about this year's ceremony!

Hosts & Presenters:

Rapper Saweetie will host this year's show. "Anything can happen at the MTV EMAs," Saweetie said in a statement, also teasing some "surprises." She's also up for Best New [Artist] alongside fellow nominees Giveon, Griff, Olivia Rodrigo, Rauw Alejandro, and The Kid Laroi.

"Saweetie is a multi-talented force who will undoubtably light up the stage on one of music's biggest nights," said ViacomCBS' Bruce Gillmer in a statement.

Saweetie will also use her hosting platform to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community during the event, which will address the need for gay and trans civil rights worldwide in response to Hungary's recent passage of legislation that bans LGBTQ+ literature in schools.

"We're looking forward to using the event to amplify our voices and stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ siblings," Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of MTV Entertainment Group Worldwide told The Associated Press.

As for presenters, Rita Ora, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic), Olly Alexander (Years & Years), Joel Corry, Brazilian singer Manu Gavassi, model Winnie Harlow, and WWE star Drew McIntyre are all on the docket to announce categories and winners.

Performances:

Not only will Saweetie be hosting, but she is also set to take the stage herself. The 29-year-old star will perform "Best Friend" and "Back to the Streets" from her upcoming debut album, Pretty Bitch Music.

OneRepublic will be the World Stage headliner for this year's show, while Imagine Dragons will be returning to the EMA stage after 8 years. They'll be performing "Enemy" with rapper J.I.D. Other performers include Ed Sheeran, Maluma, Måneskin, Kim Petras, YUNGBLUD, Griff, and girl in red.
