After 53 years, Aerosmith have officially retired from the road.
The iconic rock band's farewell tour had made it to its third stop last September when Steven Tyler was waylaid with damaged vocal cords due to a fractured larynx. Now, after multiple postponements, the band says “a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.”
The tour, titled the Peace Out Tour, was set to run from September 2023 until January 2024. It would have been 40 dates in total, and the Black Crowes served as the opening act. Aerosmith posted an official statement announcing their touring retirement on their website and across social media.

"It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives," part of the letter reads.
Aerosmith’s popularity ascended in the 1970s, though the band did not receive accolades until the late 80s, taking home their first official Grammy in 1990 for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. They went on to win that title four times for “Janie’s Got a Gun,” “Livin’ on the Edge,” “Crazy,” and “Pink.”
The group continued to gain recognition, including six American Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, two People’s Choice, and countless others. Prior to their retirement announcement, Tyler joined The Black Crowes’ Happiness Bastards Tour when it arrived in London on May 15 for a collaborative take on Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin.”
