Christmas Day is over, and now BLACKPINK's Jennie is looking into the new year with a big announcement.
Jennie will be launching a new record label and company called OA. Billboard reports the K-pop star shared the news with her 83 million Instagram followers on Christmas Eve (December 24).
“Hi, this is Jennie. This year was filled with many accomplishments, and I’m so thankful for all the love I’ve received,” the K-pop singer wrote on her Instagram Story. “I’m also about what’s to come, as I start my solo journey in 2024 with a company that I have established called OA. Please show lots of love for my new start with OA and of course BLACKPINK. Thank you.”
While Jennie didn't elaborate further about specific plans for the new label and company, she did post a black-and-white photo of herself, tagging OA’s new Instagram account. The account had already gained about 850,000 followers by Sunday morning. Besides a simple pic of Jennie sitting in a chair, OA’s page features two images with the same caption that briefly describe the company's mission.
“OA, which stands for ODD ATELIER, is a space that aims to create new things that attract attention in a different way from what is usual or expected,” the artist captioned in an image of the company’s logo emblazoned on dark hoodies. “It is a label founded by artist JENNIE in November 2023.”
Don't worry: Jennie's new 'solo journey' doesn't mean she's leaving BLACKPINK. In early December, YG Entertainment announced the agency renewed its exclusive contract with all four members of BLACKPINK, meaning Jennie will still be appearing alongside Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé.
BLACKPINK is to date the most successful K-pop girl group to have impacted the U.S. market. The quartet headlined Coachella earlier this year, and in 2022 became the third K-pop group to top the Billboard 200 with its album Born Pink. This year, all four members became honorary Members of the Order of the British Empire, and Jennie in particular made her acting debut in HBO's The Idol.
