Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion to Debut 'Bongos' Live at 2023 VMAs

After the viral success that was "WAP," rap queens Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have teamed up once again on the new song "Bongos." The pair dropped the banger and a colorful music video on September 8. Now, it's been announced the duo will give fans the track's live debut during the 2023 VMAs ceremony tomorrow (September 12).

The performance will mark the first time Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have shared the VMAs stage. Megan Thee Stallion is nominated for three awards this year, all for “Her” (Best Direction, Best Choreography, and Best Art Direction). Cardi B has one nomination, Best Hip-Hop, for her Glorilla collaboration “Tomorrow 2.”

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” earned five nominations from the VMAs back in 2021. The raunchy song debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was performed live at the 2021 Grammy Awards. However, “WAP” was not submitted for Grammy consideration, reportedly holding off for Cardi’s next album campaign.

As for other Megan and Cardi news: the former Houston rapper is still coasting off the success of her sophomore studio album Traumazine, which was released in August 2022. In the brief year since then, she hosted Saturday Night Live and guest-starred in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and the not-yet-released movie Dicks: The Musical. As for Cardi B, “Bongos” follows her singles “Hot Sh--” from last year and 2021’s “Up.” It’s been five years since her 2018 debut LP, Invasion of Privacy, was released.

The VMAs are set to broadcast live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, at 8PM EDT on September 12 on MTV. Besides Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, this year’s performers include Video Vanguard Award recipient Shakira, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Lil Wayne, Demi Lovato, Fall Out Boy, Tomorrow x Together, Metro Boomin with Future, Nelly, Karol G, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Anitta, Peso Pluma, and more. Taylor Swift and SZA lead the charge with the most nominations at this year, followed by Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and Doja Cat.
