Celine Dion Shares First New Song Since Revealing Rare Neurological Diagnosis

Back in December 2022, Celine Dion opened up about her rare neurological condition – stiff-person syndrome – and how it would affect her career as a singer. Now, the Canadian songstress has released "Love Again": the first of five new songs she has contributed to an upcoming movie of the same name.

Dion stars in the film alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas – who describes Love Again as an “ode to Celine” – and Sam Heughan. The film, out on May 5, is a romantic comedy/drama about a woman who is coping with the death of her fiancé, and the new and unexpected connection she makes with a journalist through texting. Dion will be playing herself in the movie. A trailer of the movie sees her getting profiled in a journalistic piece.

In a press release, Dion said, “I had a lot of fun doing this movie. And to have the privilege of appearing with the beautiful and talented actors Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan in my very first feature film is a gift that I will cherish forever. I think it’s a wonderful feel-good story, and I hope that people will like it, and like the new songs too.”

The full soundtrack, which features the five new Dion songs, will be available to listeners on May 12, according to an Instagram announcement. The lyric video for "Love Again" shows snippets of Dion's acting in scenes with Heughan.

“Love Again” is Dion’s first release since 2019’s Courage. She postponed the opening of her new Las Vegas residency in October 2021 due to “severe and persistent muscle spasms,” which also forced the cancellation of her North American tour in January 2022. In April, she then postponed the European tour until the spring of 2023 due to “health issues.” She said in her social media posts about stiff-person syndrome that she was working with a sports medicine therapist to rebuild her strength, but the syndrome is thought to be incurable.
