Center Stage on Live365 this week is The Sunny Time – "Whistle, sing, hum, and enjoy!" We spoke with the station manager Carlos García about their history with radio, their station's programming, and we got some music recommendations. Check out the interview below!
What made you get started in radio?
Discovering that I could do it and many years of listening and selecting music to listen to in my own business
What brought you to Live365?
Knowing that Live365 takes care of the copyright in addition to the positive reviews and verification that Live365 offers a good product
What's your favorite part about running your own radio station?
Selecting the best songs and knowing that other people are listening to my station because they like the music played
Tell us about your station's programming. What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
24/7 only music web radio from the 50s to now! The Sunny Time has 3,163 songs by more than 1,000 artists, with the best selection of music for work, at home, or even better, at the beach. Rock, pop, folk, soul...Walk by the sunny side of the street from 1950 to now. Smile to life. Play joy. Play The Sunny Time. Cool, happy, fun, upbeat...
Name one artist that you play on your station that is underrated in your opinion.
Only one? On my station there are many little-known or unknown artists. A characteristic of my station is that there is a wide variety of artists, most with a single song. But to give an example, I will say Marcy Playground. I have 10 of their songs on my station, including "Crazy Katy Nicotine And Her Red Jet Air Balloon," "Deadly Handsome Man," "Good Times," "I Must Have Been Dreaming," and "Rock and Roll Heroes."
What's your favorite music memory/moment?
How difficult...I was part of "La Movida," a musical movement in the early 80s in my country that you may not know in the USA, but it was revolutionary in Spain.
Please list your top 5 or 10 songs, with a brief reason why each song made your list.
More difficult still. I like the 3,163 songs on my station and have selected them one by one. It is almost impossible for me to choose 5 among them, but I will try:
-
"Down By The River Side" - The Golden Gate Quartet
Because everything started with gospel music: soul, blues, rock, folk, pop... -
"Goodnight Ladies" - Lou Reed
Because I really like Lou Reed and this was the song they played when they were going to close Rockola at dawn, a legendary venue in Madrid in the 80s. -
"One Way or Another" - Blondie
Because it reminds me of the musical explosion of the 80s and Debbie Harris is an icon of the time. -
"Hope" - Jack Johnson
Because I really like this current artist and specifically this song seems very cool to me. -
"Story About Me" - Loveable Rogues
Because I really like this group and it's a shame they split up.
