Billboard announced this morning (Nov. 15) that Cyndi Lauper will receive this year's Icon Award at their 13th annual Women in Music event.
Billboard's editorial director Jason Lipshutz said, "The entire world recognizes the power of Cyndi Lauper's pop music, and just as crucially, she has used her undeniable talent to soar beyond music, create positive change in modern society, and become a true Icon."
The Icon Award is given to female artists of extraordinary accomplishment, as well as having made astounding contributions to the music and artist industry. Lauper has put out countless hits throughout her four-decade career, eight of which ended up on the Hot 100 chart. For her works she has won Grammys, a Tony, an Emmy and several others. Lauper is also an active humanitarian and advocate, co-founding the True Colors Fund, an organization to end youth homelessness among the LGBTQ community.
Other noteworthy awards will go to Janelle MonĂ¡e (Trailblazer Award) and Ariana Grande (Woman of the Year).
