Demi Lovato's new docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil is set to open the 2021 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, which will take place virtually from Mar. 16-20.
Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil sees Lovato opening up about her nearly fatal overdose in 2018 and what she has discovered in the aftermath. The YouTube Original docuseries was directed by Michael D. Ratner and it will premiere on the platform on Mar. 23.
“It’s impressive and rare to see a pop superstar tell their story so authentically and without pretense,” Janet Pierson, SXSW’s Director of Film, said in a statment. “We’re privileged to present this intimate journey told with such vulnerability. Demi Lovato’s profound interest in mental health awareness is helping change the landscape of a crucial issue in this year of national and international trauma and loss.”
Some other titles that will screen at 2021 SXSW are the Justine Bateman-directed Violet, Poly Styrene documentary I Am a Cliché, and Andrea Nevins' doc Hysterical. The full 2021 program will be announced on Feb. 10.
