First Posthumous SOPHIE Album to Be Released in September

SOPHIE's legacy as a pioneer in hyperpop music is set to live on. The first posthumous album from the beloved producer has been announced. SOPHIE, produced by the late artist and Benny Long, is out September 27.

According to a press release, SOPHIE was nearly finished with her self-titled record before she died. The new album has also been billed as “the final SOPHIE album release.” Leading the album is a collaboration with BC Kingdom and Kim Petras called “Reason Why.” You can pre-order the upcoming LP here.

SOPHIE died at the age of 34 from an accidental fall in Athens, Greece, in January 2021. The trans hitmaker released the lone studio album of her lifetime, Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, in June 2018. For the project, she was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. During her lifetime, she also produced music for the likes of Charli XCX, Madonna, Vince Staples, Kim Petras, LIZ, and MØ, among others.

Very little of SOPHIE’s music has been released since her death. Among her posthumous works available to the public are the Jlin collaboration “Jsloipnhie” and production for Hyd and Basside.
