Gene Watson has been invited to become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry.
Opry member Vince Gill revealed the news during Watson's recent performance at the Opry. Gill said, “I’ll make you a deal — if you will do ‘Farewell Party,’ we will invite you to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry.”
After explaining that he had just celebrated the song's 40th anniversary and that the song remains his most-requested song after all these years, and just before performing the hit, Watson said, “Then you pull this on me, I’m not sure I have anything left.”
Recent new Opry members include Chris Janson, Dustin Lynch, Kelsea Ballerini, and Luke Combs.
