Japanese Breakfast Shares Upcoming Album Details,Tour Dates, and New Lyric Video

Japanese Breakfast is kicking off 2025 with lots of news. The artist has announced her first new album in four years. Additionally, she's revealed upcoming international tour dates, and has dropped a lyric video for a new track titled "Orlando in Love."

Produced by Blake Mills (who has worked with such names as Bob Dylan and Fiona Apple), For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) will arrive March 21. Unlike previous projects where Michelle Zauner recorded in makeshift and unconventional environments, with this record she created all the songs in studio at Sound City in Los Angeles.

Zauner cites the aftermath of the unexpected success of her 2021 album Jubilee and her memoir Crying In H Mart as primary thematic inspiration for her new LP. For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) will showcase a more contemplative and cautious side of Japanese Breakfast.

“I felt seduced by getting what I always wanted,” Zauner said in a statement. “I was flying too close to the sun, and I realized if I kept going I was going to die.”

In the spring, Japanese Breakfast will head out on tour in support of the new album. Beginning with performances at both weekends of the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the tour will then bring Japanese Breakfast across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe, with a number of other music festival stops along the way. It’s set to end on September 9 in Minneapolis, and Ginger Root will open most of the North American shows. A ticket pre-sale for all of the new tour dates will begin Wednesday, January 8 at 10am local time via Ticketmaster (use code OCTAVE), with a public on-sale following on Friday, January 10.

For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) is Japanese Breakfast’s fourth studio album. After dropping her previous album Jubilee in 2021, Zauner released her video game soundtrack, Sable, and her best-selling memoir, Crying in H Mart. The nonfiction book is currently being adapted into a movie directed by White Lotus and A Real Pain star Will Sharpe. A few months ago, Zauner also released a song for the Marvel show Agatha All Along.
