After days of teasing, Lil Nas X has resurrected with his new single, “J Christ.” It comes with a self-directed music video packed with religious imagery.
Lil Nas X started teasing “J Christ” early last week, writing the song “is dedicated to the man who had the greatest comeback of all time.” The musician also shared the single artwork, featuring himself dressed as Jesus Christ on the cross. As for the music video, it features a one-on-one game of basketball between an angel and demon, a stormy Noah’s ark dance sequence, and Lil Nas X nailed to a cross. We also go back down the pole into hell, just like in the iconic music video for "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)."

Lil Nas X produced “J Christ” with Gesaffelstein and Omar Fedi. He also co-wrote the song with Gesaffelstein, Fedi, and Blake Slatkin.
“J Christ” marks Lil Nas X’s first single since the release of “Late to da Party” (featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again) and “Star Walkin’ (League of Legends Worlds Anthem)” in 2022. The pop star dropped his debut full-length, Montero, the previous year.
Last year, Lil Nas X’s documentary Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero debuted at the Toronto Film Festival. The movie is slated to air on HBO on Saturday, January 27, at 8 pm ET. It will also be available to stream on Max.
