Warner Bros. Acquire Bruce Springsteen Documentary 'Western Stars'

Warner Bros. has acquired the upcoming Bruce Springsteen documentary Western Stars and is set to release the film in theaters this fall after premiering at September's Toronto International Film Festival.

The documentary, which is the directorial debut for the singer and co-directed by Springsteen collaborator Thom Zimny, focuses on Springsteen's first studio album in five years, Western Stars. The film will feature archival footage, personal narration, and performances by Springsteen.

“Bruce lives in the super rarified air of artists who have blazed new and important trails deep into their careers. With Western Stars, Bruce is pivoting yet again, taking us with him on an emotional and introspective cinematic journey, looking back and looking ahead," Warner Bros. picture group chairman Toby Emmerich said Friday in a statement. "As one of his many fans for over 40 years, I couldn’t be happier to be a rider on this train with Bruce and Thom.”

Western Stars was written and performed by Springsteen with special guest Patti Scialfa, a member of the E Street Band, as well as the singer’s wife.
