Metro Boomin has enlisted A-listers – and some incarcerated friends – to help tease his upcoming album, Heroes & Villains, which is out this Friday. Yesterday (November 29), the producer released a short film trailer for the album that features appearances from Morgan Freeman, LaKeith Stanfield, Gunna, and Young Thug.
In the trailer, which is soundtracked by his song “Umbrella,” Metro Boomin becomes a superhero that “protects the city from the threat of evil” from the Boominati. The comic book-inspired visual was directed by Gibson Hazard and teases upcoming songs featuring Future, 21 Savage, and Chris Brown.
Of course, Morgan Freeman kicks off the video with a narration using his iconic deep voice. “Metropolis is on the brink of chaos,” he says over comic book images with “Free YSL,” before the villain (played by LaKeith Stanfield) pulls out of the building in a fire truck. After the title scene, two news anchors (Gunna and Young Thug) prepare to direct viewers to watch a reporter “at the uh scene of the f-----g crime.” (For context: both Gunna and Young Thug are in prison on racketeering charges for their alleged work with collective YSL.)
Metro Boomin announced Heroes & Villains back in September. He did so with a short video with similar aesthetics to the star-studded short film. The album is available to pre-save here before its release this Friday.
