Music promoter Laila McKenzie and writer Ian ‘Snowy’ Snowball have been working on a new hardcover coffee table book that compiles interviews with the women of house music. Now, that book is backed by a Kickstarter campaign to raise enough money to cover printing and distribution costs.
Entitled Lady of the House, the book compiles over 120 interviews with DJs, producers, artists, promoters, and management. Some of the featured women include Candi Staton, Barbara Tucker, Sam Divine, Ellen Allien, DJ Maxinne, and Kym Mazelle.
In addition to interviews, the book features photographs and an introspective intro from some of the genre's men highlighting their admiration of women's success within the dance music industry.
The goal of the Kickstarter campaign is to raise £25,000 (about $34,500). For more information and to donate, see kickstarter.com.
