New York City to Rename Streets After Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan, & Woody Guthrie

Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan, and Woody Guthrie are all being honored with a street named after them in New York City. The New York City Council voted unanimously on Friday to rename streets in the boroughs where the legendary artists are from.

In Brooklyn, St. James Place between Fulton Street and Gates Avenue where Notorious B.I.G. grew up will be renamed Christopher Wallace Way after his birth name. Staten Island’s Vanderbilt Avenue and Targee Street will be newly named Wu-Tang Clan District, Gothamist reports.

Also, the section of Brooklyn where folk legend Woody Guthrie lived in the early 1940s, Coney Island’s Mermaid Avenue between West 35th and West 36th, will now be known as Woody Guthrie Way.

The New York City Council voted 68-0 to approve the street name changes, however the changes are pending until Mayor Bill de Blasio approves them.
