Previously, we introduced you to Remi Wolf in our 10 LGBTQ+ Artists You Should Know in 2021 list. Now, the University of Southern California grad is releasing her debut album: Juno.
The record is set for release October 15 and will be dropped via Island Records. Juno is the follow-up to Wolf's 2020 EP I'm Allergic to Dogs! as well as her 2021 remix project We Love Dogs! The young artist has been blowing up after her song "Photo ID" with Dominic Fike became an indie hit, and NME declared her EP one of the best releases of the year.
Wolf recently shared two new songs off Juno. The first is the thumping hip hop track "Quiet On Set," and the other is a cheery indie tune called "Grumpy Old Man." Both contrasting songs come with colorful music videos directed by Haley Appell.
In a press release, Wolf described "Quiet On Set" as “full on psycho,” saying, "as much as the song is silly and fun, it really does reflect my life and feelings at the time… overworked, manic, reckless, and childish."
She explained "Grumpy Old Man" came from a more vulnerable place, with the number inspired by "some of the most benign things (that) can make me irritated and defensive, which makes me feel old, fragile, and careless."
Juno will also feature Wolf's single "Liquor Store," which she released last month. Like with the titles of her other projects, Juno also keeps to a canine theme: it's the name of Wolf's dog she adopted during COVID-19 lockdown. According to a press statement Wolf released, "He ended up being in every single writing session for this album and I consider him my partner, witness, and support in the making of this record."
In that same press statement, Wolf talked more about the album's manifestation.
"Creating my debut album Juno was like a fever dream," Wolf said. “So many changes were happening in my life while I was creating these songs and I think my album really reflects the feelings of tension and release that these changes provoked in me."
She continued: "Every song on this record is a vivid snapshot into what was going on in my life and mindset the day I wrote each one. I hope my Remjobs can hear my honesty and passion come through and, if not, I just hope they think each song is a banger!”
In other news, Wolf is set to embark on a short tour starting in September and will be playing at several music festivals - including Austin City Limits and the Firefly music festival. Info on tickets can be found here.
Juno is available to pre-order and pre-save, and fans can pre-order standard and signed CD editions of the album over on Remi Wolf's online shop.
