This year's biggest pop princesses will be singing at the 2024 VMAs. Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan have officially been announced as performers during the ceremony. They're among the first round of performers to be announced for the annual MTV event.
It will be Roan's first time performing at the show – as well as her first time singing at any awards show. Technically, Carpenter has never performed at the VMAs. However, she was booked to perform at last year's pre-telecast segment and gave two special renditions of "Feather" and "Nonsense."
Carpenter and Roan will be joined by GloRilla, Camila Cabello, and Rauw Alejandro in the performer lineup. Those big names are just the start of a bigger artist lineup due to roll out in the month before showtime.

There's also another big VMAs update: the show has been re-scheduled to September 11. The event had been scheduled for September 10, but now that it's confirmed the first debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will be on that date, MTV has moved its signature awards show back by one night.
MTV is mindful the bump puts the VMAs on another important day -–the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks – and said in an announcement that it “will again support the nonprofit 9/11 Day, which organizes the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, and Tuesday’s Children, which serves the families of 9/11.”
The show will air live on 9/11 at 8pm ET/PT in 150 countries. Nominees were announced last week. Taylor Swift leads with 10 nominations, followed by Post Malone with nine (most of those for his duet with Swift, “Fortnight”). Carpenter is tied with Ariana Grande and Eminem with six nominations each. Following behind with multiple nods are Megan Thee Stallion and SZA (five each), and Lisa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims (four each).
Roan is a nominee for best new artist at the VMAs. Her competitors in that category are Shaboozey, Benson Boone, Teddy Swims, Tyla, and Gracie Abrams. Contrary to the internet's expectations, Carpenter is not nominated for Best New Artist this year. It's likely because she already has a substantial history of recordings going into 2024, as evidenced by her appearance on the VMAs pre-telecast last year.
