Sam Smith and Madonna Release New Collab Song 'Vulgar'

Sam Smith and Madonna have joined forces...and they're calling themselves S&M.

Sam Smith and Madonna have shared a new pop song called “Vulgar.” It's a dancehall ready, electro-pop jam with a thumping beat that feels like a perfect soundtrack for some Pride Month voguing. "Look like I'm dressed to kill, love how I make me feel / All black in stripper heels, move like Madonna," Sam speaks in the song's first verse.

Madonna jumps in by verse 2, rapping, "Let's get into the groove, you know just what to do / Boy, get down on your knees 'cause I am Madonna / If you f--k with Sam tonight, you're f--king with me / So watch what you say or I'll split your banana."

According to Genius, the new song is partly a clap back to the negative reaction to Sam’s new material and image in the media, particularly on their song “Unholy” and its live performances. "Vulgar" is a response to a viral debate about Sam and their tour, hosted by television personality Piers Morgan, where he made comments describing the events as “disgusting and vulgar.” One of the debaters Douglas Murray, who argued against Sam, also added their performances were not original, saying “Madonna did this 40 years ago.”

In the days leading up to the song’s release, the musicians shared single artwork billing themselves as S&M. Sam Smith produced “Vulgar” with Ilya (for MXM Productions), Cirkut, Omer Fedi, Ryan Tedder, Jimmy Napes, and Madonna’s vocal producer and engineer, Lauren D’Elia.
