Shakira & Manuel Turizo Share Mermaid-Inspired ‘Copa Vacia’ Music Video

Shakira and Manuel Turizo have joined forces for the first time for the pop-reggaeton song “Copa Vacía” (empty glass). With heartfelt lyrics, the sultry song reflects on unrequited love and is accompanied by a mermaid-inspired music video.

In “Copa Vacía,” the two Colombian artists have a back-and-forth discussion about not giving enough love and affection to the other person. In the chorus, they unite to sing: “I’ve been thirsty for you for a while, I don’t know why/I’m left wanting more, wanting to drink from an empty cup.”

Ten days ahead of the release (on June 19), Shakira and Turizo told fans, “We made a movie,” sharing a poster of Shakira taking the role of a mermaid and Turizo as a prince. The music video, co-directed by Shakira and Jaume de Laiguana, features Shak as a pink-haired siren who’s abandoned on seashore rocks as Turizo comes to the rescue. The visual follows a similar plot to The Little Mermaid, as Shak eventually gains some human legs.

“Copa Vacía” follows Shakira’s song “Acróstico,” which is a love letter to her children.  In May, Shakira was also honored at the inaugural Billboard Latin Women in Music gala as Woman of the Year. As for Manuel Turizo, the artist released his third studio album 2000 back in March.
