You may know him as The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, or Biggie. The Notorious B.I.G. was an American rapper who is now considered to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. His 1994 debut album, Ready to Die, placed him on the map and made him a central figure in East Coast hip-hop. Biggie sadly passed in 1997 in a drive-by shooting. His album, Life After Death, was released shortly after his passing and rose to number one on the U.S. album charts and it was certified Diamond in 2000. Since his passing, Biggie is named on countless lists of the top MCs and his lyrics have been sampled and quoted by a variety of artists, including Jay-Z, Michael Jackson, Usher, Lil Wayne, and Eminem.
Shaq and Biggie not only worked on a song with each other and had mutual respect for each other, they were also friends. It all started when Shaq heard Biggie say Shaq's name in a rap. From there, Shaq asked Biggie to be on a record and they created "Still Can't Stop the Reign" for Shaq's third studio album. Shaq re-recorded his part several times to make it perfect for Biggie. And, Biggie re-recorded his verse because his original verse was too explicit. It's fair to say that Shaq and Biggie really respected each other and were friends ever since. These days, Shaq reflects on his friendship with Biggie. "I just was thinking that I'm fortunate enough to say that I knew him. Fortunate enough to say that he blessed me with 32 bars on my album. I'm blessed enough to say that he knew me and I knew him. So I really don't think about the bad times just think about the good times. Even when I hear his verses on different beats it still sounds like he's still here."
