Timothée Chalamet Performs Bob Dylan Songs on 'Saturday Night Live'

For the first time in his career, Timothée Chalamet pulled double duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Sorry, Timmy lovers: he wasn't on the show to revive his early rap persona. Rather, he used his musical guest time to sing Bob Dylan tracks – which he also does in his new movie, A Complete Unknown.

On the January 25 show, Chalamet performed three of Dylan’s songs: “Tomorrow Is a Long Time” and a medley of “Outlaw Blues” and “Three Angels.” The latter even featured keyboard accompaniment from English singer-songwriter James Blake. Rather than performing the songs with his Dylan-inspired voice and demeanor, Chalamet sang the songs less in character and more as himself. Actors Adam Sandler and Kenan Thompson announced Chalamet before his two performances.

Chalamet appeared in sketches throughout the night as a bungee-jumping instructor, new barista-in-training, and an AI-generated podcast host. It was his third time hosting SNL, having previously appeared on the show in 2020 and 2023.

For his portrayal of Bob Dylan, he’s currently nominated for Best Actor at the 2025 Academy Awards, one of eight categories in which A Complete Unknown is eligible to win. Additionally, he's up for a Screen Actors Guild Award – also in the Best Actor category. Last year, leading up to A Complete Unknown's release, he recreated the music video for Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” A Complete Unknown is still playing in select movie theaters. Saturday Night Live’s 50th season, which kicked off in September, has featured performances from Jelly Roll, ColdplayStevie Nicks, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Mk.gee, Charli XCX, Shaboozey, Gracie Abrams, and Hozier. Last week’s musical guest was Glorilla. A host and musical guest for SNL’s February 15 episode – which will air a day before the show’s huge 50th anniversary special – have yet to be announced.
