American Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. For some of us, we sadly live too far away from family to celebrate with them. So, we turn to our friends and celebrate what is now known as "Friendsgiving." To get into the spirit of Friendsgiving, we compiled some of our favorite songs about friendship! Check it out, below.
10. "We're Going to Be Friends" by The White Stripes
This song's story is a throwback to simpler times -- making friends in grade school. Anyone still hanging on to those treasured friendships?
9. "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman
If you grew up in the '90s or have your own kids, this one will be familiar. "You've Got a Friend in Me" is best-known from Pixar's Toy Story.
8. "Anytime You Need a Friend" by Mariah Carey
Shout out to those long-lasting, long-distance friendships! "Anytime you need a friend, I will be here. You'll never be alone again...Even if you're miles away, I'm by your side."
7. "Graduation (Friends Forever)" by Vitamin C
After graduation friends often go their separate ways. But, as this song implies, we'll always have those memories which have bonded us with our friends forever.
6. "You're My Best Friend" by Queen
You can argue that this song is about a significant other, but even at the core of that -- it's based on friendship. Why not sing to the high hills about our best friends? Let them know you appreciate them!
5. "With a Little Help from My Friends" by The Beatles
As evidenced by this video, even Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are still buds despite the ugly breakup of The Beatles decades ago! Which just goes to show you, friends can be forgiven and life goes on. The song itself reminds us our friends are always there for us.
4. "I'll Be There For You" by The Rembrandts
This is one we should all know (and to be honest, love). "I'll Be There For You" is the theme song for one the greatest television shows on earth about friendship, Friends. "So no one told you life was gonna be this way" rings true to almost everyone. And we all know true friends stick with us no matter what life throws at us.
3. "Thank You for Being a Friend" by Cynthia Fee
Another theme song from another show about friends! "Thank You for Being a Friend" was originally recorded by Andrew Gold and rerecorded by Cynthia Fee for "The Golden Girls." Our favorite line? "And when we both get older, With walking canes and hair of gray, Have no fear even though it's hard to hear, I will stand here close and say, Thank you for being a friend."
2. "Wannabe" by Spice Girls
If you grew up listening to the Spice Girls, chances are you can still belt out every single word to this tune. It taught an entire generation, guys and gals alike, about friendship and girl power.
1. "Where You Lead" by Carole King
You may have thought we'd pick the obvious "You've Got a Friend" by King, but we think "Where You Lead" speaks volumes about true friendship. Plus, girl can ROCK that piano!
