Beach Boys Launch Yearlong 60th Anniversary Celebration

60 years after emerging as a band with "good vibrations," the Beach Boys are celebrating their milestone anniversary with a yearlong celebration.

First on the docket, Capitol Records and UMe will release a newly remastered and expanded edition of the Beach Boys career-spanning greatest hits collection, Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys, on June 17. The new collection will be available digitally, as a 3CD soft-pack, and as a Super Deluxe Edition 6LP vinyl box set on 180-gram black vinyl.

The new edition adds 50 songs to the original collection's 30, with new mixes spanning from their 1962 debut album to 1989’s Still Cruisin'. There's even a new mix of "Good Vibrations," which the band recently shared. All formats will include a booklet with new liner notes and updated photos, and can be pre-ordered here.

After the new greatest hits release, Capitol/UMe will release the next chapters in the Beach Boys’ archival releases: 1972’s Carl and the Passions – "So Tough" and 1973’s Holland.

As for other celebratory events, the Beach Boys are currently working on a new feature-length documentary, and throughout the year, there will be “a tribute special, prestigious exhibitions and events, and unique brand partnerships,” according to a press release.

The Beach Boys said in a statement: “It’s hard to believe it’s been 60 years since we signed to Capitol Records and released our first album, ‘Surfin’ Safari.’ We were just kids in 1962 and could have never dreamed about where our music would take us, that it would have such a big impact on the world, still be loved, and continue to be discovered by generation after generation."

They continued: “This is a huge milestone that we’re all very honored to have achieved. And to our incredible fans, forever and new, we look forward to sharing even more throughout the year.”

In other Beach Boys news, the group will be going out on the road with their Sixty Years of the Sounds of Summer tour. As for Beach Boys member Brian Wilson, the artist will be embarking on a co-headlining tour with Chicago this summer and his documentary Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road is now available to stream.
