With summer officially behind us and fall ahead, it's time again to reflect on the music of the summer. Although the COVID-19 pandemic informed all aspects of this summer, many artists still offered up the summery tracks that we needed.
Which ones will ultimately remain unforgettable? We've selected 10 that will forever be synonymous with Summer 2020.
"Watermelon Sugar" - Harry Styles
If any song truly sounds like summer, it's this one. Overall, Summer 2020 may not have been very summery, but at least "Watermelon Sugar" delivered on the summer feeling.
"Do It" - Chloe x Halle
Chloe x Halle released "Do It" right before summer officially began and followed it up with the release of their critically acclaimed second studio album Ungodly Hour. With top-notch music, a perfectly timed release, and a summer filled with incredible at-home live performances, it was undeniably Chloe x Halle's summer.
"ROCKSTAR (feat. Roddy Ricch)" - DaBaby
This was the most-streamed song on Spotify this summer, so no explanation needed.
"WHATS POPPIN" - Jack Harlow
Jack Harlow burst onto the scene this year with "WHATS POPPIN" and to this day, that beat does not get old.
"WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)" - Cardi B
Although released late in the summer, "WAP" made waves, as to be expected. Regardless of personal opinions, there's no denying that this song was massive and a defining release of the summer.
"Supalonely (feat. Gus Dapperton)" - BENEE
TikTok totally dominated pop culture this summer, introducing us to countless songs. "Supalonely" was one of those tracks that rose to popularity through TikTok, and it's relevancy given all of the social distancing and quarantining makes it stand out even more.
"Don’t Start Now" - Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa took us back to the disco era with “Don’t Start Now” and we're not ready to leave.
"Blinding Lights" - The Weeknd
Although released in late 2019, "Blinding Lights" stood strong in 2020 as the second most-streamed song on Spotify this summer.
"Savage Remix (feat. Beyoncé)" - Megan Thee Stallion
"Savage" was already a huge success before the remix, going viral on TikTok thanks to the "Savage" dance challenge. Adding Beyoncé on for the remix just further solidified the song's inevitable presence throughout the summer.
"Rain On Me" - Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande
It's really no surprise that a collaboration between two pop icons became a standout song of Summer 2020. It also doesn't hurt that it's so darn dancey.
