Center Stage on Live365 this week is Musical Theatre Radio, featuring show tunes from the stage 24/7! We spoke with station manager Jean-Paul Yovanoff about their history with radio, their station's programming, and we got some music recommendations. Check out the interview below!
What made you get started in radio?
I was a mobile DJ for 15 years and have a background in musical theatre, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to use all of my skills in one place.
What brought you to Live365?
After much research, Live365 made licensing so much easier by including it in the price.
What's your favorite part about running your own radio station?
I can promote and play songs from new artists, helping them get discovered by more people.
Tell us about your station's programming. What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
Musical Theatre Radio plays show tunes from the stage, new & old, popular & rare, from around the world with a mandate to support and promote new works and their creators. We play a little bit of everything for everyone who loves musicals. Take a look at our 24 hour show schedule on our website.
Name one artist that you play on your station that is underrated in your opinion.
Almost 25% of the songs we play are from artists people have never heard of before, so they are all underrated in my eyes.
What's your favorite music memory/moment?
The first time the musical I wrote was performed on stage. I saw the audience enjoyed it as much as I did creating it.
