We now have our Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025!

The announcement aired on live TV during American Idol, where host Ryan Seacrest revealed the official inductees during a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame–themed episode. The seven artists are half of 14 nominees who made the induction shortlist this year. Mariah Carey, Oasis, Joy Division, New Order, Phish, Billy Idol, the Black Crowes and Maná will sadly not be progressing this time around.

As for other honorees - Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon are the recipients of this year’s Musical Influence Award, which celebrates artists whose music directly had an impact on the evolution of rock and roll or inspired some of the genre’s leading artists. Meanwhile, the Musical Excellence Award will go to legendary Philly Soul producer Thom Bell, session musician Carole Kaye (whose contributions include the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” and Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’”), and studio keyboardist Nicky Hopkins (known for his work with the Rolling Stones, the Who, and other British Invasion acts). DreamWorks Records co-founder Lenny Waronker, who famously coaxed Elliott Smith into signing a major label deal, will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

There are some notable factoids about this year's Rock Hall class. With OutKast and Salt-N-Pepa both being inducted this year, this is the sixth consecutive year that one or more rap acts has been in the induction class. With Lauper, Salt-N-Pepa, Meg White of The White Stripes and Carol Kaye being inducted this year, this is the fourth consecutive year that four or more female acts were in the induction class. Out of this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Chubby Checker had the longest wait for induction, having been eligible since 1984. He even waited longer than Cher, who was finally inducted last year: 59 years after Sonny & Cher’s breakthrough smash “I Got You Babe.”

The induction is also somewhat of a full-circle career moment for Cyndi Lauper, who is currently on her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour and will be retiring from performing live once the trek is over. She's on the road until August 30.

The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is happening November 8 and will be livestreamed via Disney+.
