Disney Publishing Worldwide recently announced that they have acquired Dave Matthews' environmentally conscious children's book. The fantasy novel, which is for middle grade readers, was written by Matthews and well-known children's book author, Clete Barrett Smith.
Entitled If We Were Giants, the book follows a girl named Kirra who must confront her past mistakes in order to save her peaceful community, the Tree Folk, from a gigantic threat.
As an outspoken environmentalist, Matthews found this story particularly important to tell. “Having spent my childhood exploring the forests of Virginia and time as an adult with the San people of South Africa, I really respect a life balanced with nature," Matthews said in a press statement. "I’m thrilled to be working with Clete and Disney Publishing to tell a story that focuses on the importance of the environment.”
If We Were Giants will be released on March 3. The book is currently available for preorder here and on Amazon.
