Drake to Release Long-Awaited 'Certified Lover Boy' This Friday

After teasing its release back in June, Drake has confirmed he will finally share his long-anticipated studio album Certified Lover Boy this Friday.

The rapper posted an image of twelve expectant mom emojis on Instagram along with the all-caps message "CERTIFIED LOVER BOY SEPTEMBER 3." Last week, Drake hinted CLB was imminent on ESPN's flagship program SportsCenter, sneaking in an image of a fan holding up a sign reading "CLB September 3" between baseball highlights.

Back in July, Drake announced during his appearance on the radio show Fri Yiy Friday he'd finished work on his follow-up to 2018's Scorpion. "Album's ready … Album's cooked, looking forward to delivering it to you. Certified Lover Boy on the way, and that's for anyone in the way," he said.

Drake first hyped CLB in August 2020 in the midst of the first pandemic summer, with the Lil Durk collaboration "Laugh Now Cry Later." Though CLB is the full-length successor to Scorpion, Drake has released some new material in between, including last year’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes and the Scary Hours 2 EP in March.

As for songs, he's teamed up with Smiley, Brent Faiyaz, Lil Yachty, DJ Khaled, Future, Lil Wayne, and Popcaan throughout this year. He and Lil Wayne also joined Nicki Minaj on “Seeing Green,” a new bonus track that accompanied the belated streaming debut of her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty.

Outside of the studio, Drake has launched a new cannabis brand, a Toronto concert venue called History, and has received the 2021 Billboard Music Award for Artist of the Decade.
