Pop star Dua Lipa has a new achievement to add to her growing list: she is now an Honorary Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo, in Albania.
Although Lipa grew up in London, the pop star was born to Kosovo Albanian parents and her family relocated to Pristina, Kosovo when she was a child. Lipa was honored with the title for her humanitarian work both in Kosovo and abroad. Her first order of business as ambassador is advocating for a cause the singer and her father founded back in 2018: visa liberalization for Kosovo’s citizens.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to represent my country all over the world and to continue my work and efforts globally to see that we leave our mark and make a difference,” Dua Lipa wrote on Instagram. “The youth of Kosovo deserves the right to visa liberalization, freedom to travel and to dream big. Thank you.”
Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, the president of the Republic of Kosovo, gifted the special Honorary Ambassador medal and certificate to Dua Lipa in person on August 6. In her written invitation ahead of the event, Osmani-Sadriu wrote:
“Aside from being a world-class and a once-in-a-generation musician, you are also a role model for many girls and women across the world as a forthright and conscientious activist. But above all, what you have done for the people of Kosovo, in raising awareness of the Republic of Kosovo is unmatched and truly invaluable.” Osmani-Sadriu also took to her personal Instagram to congratulate and thank Dua Lipa afterward.
Dua Lipa's new medal comes just as the artist is almost done wrapping up her extensive Future Nostalgia tour. Earlier this year, she teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion for their joint single “Sweetest Pie” and Young Thug and Calvin Harris for “Potion.” Also in May, Lipa claimed her upcoming third studio album was "half-written."
