As part of her June/July Vogue cover story, Dua Lipa shared some exciting news for fans: she's already “half-written” the follow-up to her 2020 album Future Nostalgia, and promised her next record would definitely show signs of growth.
While details are very limited on what to expect from her third album, Lipa said, “I’ve definitely grown up. Overall, whether it’s sonically or in terms of the themes, I’ve matured.” She continued, “It’s like I’m coming into my power and not afraid to talk about things. It’s about understanding what I want.”
Megan Thee Stallion also appeared in the interview to talk about her recent collaboration with Dua, "Sweetest Pie." Megan told Vogue she wasn’t sure the song would work at first. “When somebody is so gorgeous and established, you don’t know what to expect,” Megan said. “A lot of ladies can be divas. But Dua is just so nice. She felt like a familiar spirit. We have an unspoken bond, it’s not even anything we need to discuss. Sometimes people get the wrong idea about me, too. But once you meet me, you’re like, Oh! This is my homegirl.”
Future Nostalgia received critical and commercial acclaim, topping the charts in 15 countries and reaching the top ten in 31 countries. The album also gave Lipa her first-ever nomination for the U.K.'s Mercury Prize. As for other nominations and awards, Future Nostalgia earned Dua Lipa a Brit Award for Album of the Year, and at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, Future Nostalgia was nominated for Album of the Year and won Best Pop Vocal Album.
