Frankie Goes to Hollywood Set to Reunite for Pre-Eurovision Event

You can finally "Relax!" after the long wait. 80s British pop legends Frankie Goes to Hollywood will reunite, reform, and perform at the Big Eurovision Welcome – thus opening a week of Eurovision festivities in the band’s Liverpool hometown.

The Big Eurovision Welcome happens on May 7. The group's original lineup is reforming for the first time since splitting in 1987, following a soft reunion in 2013 in which neither singer Holly Johnson nor guitarist Brian Nash took part. The band also got back together in 2003 for the VH1 show Bands Reunited, but did not perform.

Plans for the show have not been revealed, but it will not be a full set, BBC News reports. Highlights of the event will be shown during a special program on BBC One on May 8. A crowd of almost 30,000 are expected to watch the ceremony outside St. George's Hall.

Fellow Liverpudlians Atomic Kitten, the Lightning Seeds, and the Real Thing are also set to perform at the event. Liverpool is hosting Eurovision 2023 because last year’s winners, Ukraine, could not pick up the mantle due to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood dominated the U.K. charts in the mid-80s thanks to high gloss anthems like "Relax," "The Power of Love," and "Two Tribes." Their debut album, Welcome to the Pleasuredome (1984), achieved advance sales of more than a million. They've become associated with the second "British Invasion" that happened in the United States in the 80s. Their final album, Liverpool, dropped in 1986.
