Hear Beyoncé’s New Song 'Be Alive' in Trailer for Upcoming Venus and Serena Williams Biopic

Beyoncé’s new song “Be Alive” can be heard in the trailer for King Richard: a Venus and Serena Williams-executive produced biopic about the tennis champions’ lives with Will Smith playing their father, Richard.

The soulful, orchestra-heavy song is about taking pride in hard-won challenges and working to get to the top amidst adversity. “Can’t nobody knock it if they try,” Beyoncé belts, "Do you know how much we have pride?/How hard we have to try?"

"Be Alive" was written by DIXSON and Beyoncé and comes off the heels of the diva's latest release, the cover "Moon River."

Beyoncé’s projects have been relatively few since the release of her magnum opus Lemonade in 2016. While she’s released three records since, none have been full Beyoncé solo projects. In 2018, she released the tag-team Carters album with husband Jay-Z, Everything Is Love, as well as two albums related to The Lion King reboot in which she voiced the character Nala. She also curated the Disney albums, which featured her own songs as well as appearances from Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, and up-and-coming African pop singers like Burna Boy and Mr. Eazi.

Beyoncé's more recent music includes the remix of Megan Thee Stallion's song "Savage" in April 2020 and her visual album Black Is King in July 2020. Both projects won big at the 2021 Grammy Awards, which cemented the former Destiny's Child singer as the most-decorated female artist in the show's history with 28 wins.

The release of "Be Alive" and previous "Moon River" cover could hint at a new Beyoncé album coming soon. The singer recently confirmed to Harper's Bazaar she's been slowly working on new material for the past year.

In the new trailer for King Richard, Will Smith's character Richard coaches a young Venus (Saniyya Sidney) and Serena (Demi Singleton) as naysayers question the duo's legitimacy. Still, others see the sisters’ future as two of the greatest athletes to ever hit a court.

“Richard, I’m impressed. I think you might just have the next Michael Jordan,” Richard is told by Rick Macci (Jon Bernthal). “Oh no brother man, I gots me the next two,” Richard replies.

King Richard, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, will hit theaters and HBO Max on November 19.
