Lil’ Kim Announces New Memoir ‘The Queen Bee’

Hip hop legend Lil’ Kim has penned a new memoir, The Queen Bee, which will be published via Hachette Books on November 2.

Co-written by Kim and Kathy Iandoli, the book will delve into Lil’ Kim’s 30-year career, starting in her home neighborhood of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. It will then talk about her time in Junior M.A.F.I.A. – the rap collective with The Notorious B.I.G., her former lover – where she was the only woman.

Lil’ Kim eventually left the group and started a successful solo career. Her album Hard Core dropped in 1996 and earned double platinum status. She’s sold millions of records and has inspired a generation of female rappers.

“I’m excited to finally get to tell my story after all this time,” Lil’ Kim told People. “Many people have thought they knew the story of Lil’ Kim, but they have no idea.”

“Lil’ Kim not only blazed trails for women in hip-hop, but also inspired the careers of those who followed,” the press release reads. “However, life at the top hasn’t been easy, either. Lil’ Kim also talks about the hidden moments of her reign: her complicated high-profile relationships, the misogynistic industry she fought to change through sex positivity, the challenging double standards of self-image and beauty in the spotlight, and the momentous act of loyalty that ultimately landed her in prison.”
