Watch First Teaser from FX's Tupac Shakur Docuseries 'Dear Mama'

The first teaser for the upcoming FX docuseries about late legendary rapper Tupac Shakur and his activist mother Afeni has been released. Dear Mama, named after Tupac’s 1995 hit song, is expected to premiere this fall on FX, with next-day streaming on Hulu.

The 47-second teaser was shared yesterday, May 8, in celebration of Mother's Day. The teaser features images of Tupac and a voiceover from Afeni – who passed in 2016 – sharing an important lesson she taught her son at a young age.

“It was my responsibility to teach Tupac how to survive his reality,” she says. “So, Tupac do something wrong, take your little sorry self in that corner, get the New York Times and let’s have a debate about it. Not a discussion, a debate. Let me hear what your idea is, stand up, defend it.”

The five-part docuseries is directed by Allen Hughes and is “told through the eyes of the people who knew them best,” according to FX. It's “an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever.”

The docuseries, which was originally announced in 2019, isn't the only FX show Tupac's memory has been in recently. During this season of Donald Glover's Atlanta, a small horror subplot revolved around the late rapper appearing in Amsterdam.
