Two years had passed since Lykke Li had released any new music. But now, the Swedish singer is back in the game. On Wednesday (March 23), the artist shared a somber new ballad called "No Hotel." Not only that, but today (March 24), she revealed that her new album Eyeye is on the way.
"No Hotel," her first English-language single since 2018's "So Sad So Sexy," was co-produced by Li and longtime collaborator Björn Yttling. The new song sees Li sad over the infidelity of someone she loves.
As for the album, also made in collaboration with Yttling, it's due out May 20. According to a press release, it will be “an immersive audiovisual album,” with director Theo Lindquist and cinematographer Edu Grau contributing to the visual piece. Eyeye will find Li telling a story about cycles of love, addiction, relapse, and obsession. The visual portion will be a series of one-minute videos shot on 16mm film, released across social media.
"We wanted to capture the beauty and grandeur of a three-hour European arthouse movie, while making something native to modern media," Lykke said. "The intention is to deliver the full impact of a movie in sixty seconds on a phone screen, which is where most of our emotional experiences happen now anyway."
In addition to the album, Li has also announced a North American tour, with stops in San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Chicago, Toronto, and New York City. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 1 via Lykke Li's website.
