Madonna has shared her first statement since being hospitalized in late June with a serious bacterial infection. She says she is "on the road to recovery" and hopes to resume her postponed tour in October.
“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children,” she wrote in a statement posted to social media. “My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.” Madonna also thanked fans for their "positive energy, Prayers and words of healing and encouragement."

The Celebration Tour had been due to begin on July 15 in Vancouver. She now plans to pursue the North American dates of the tour after the European leg, which will go ahead as planned in October. “My focus now is on my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can,” she continued. Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, revealed the legendary pop star had spent several days in the ICU and would “need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.” You can find more information about the tour here.
Since announcing the concert dates in January, Madonna has experienced a resurgence in her career due to new song releases. In early June, she dropped the Pride anthem “Vulgar” with Sam Smith. She's also collaborated on a song with The Weeknd, titled “Popular."
