Mariah Carey Named Icon Award Recipient at 2019 Billboard Music Awards

Dick Clark Productions and NBC announced today that Mariah Carey will receive the Icon Award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. In addition to her award, the pop diva will perform a medley of her biggest hits throughout the years.

Since her debut in 1990, Mariah Carey has dominated the Billboard charts. She is the only artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart in every year of a decade (every year of the 1990s), she has had the most total No. 1s (18 total No. 1s) on the chart of any soloist, and she ruled the Hot 100 for more weeks (79 total weeks) than any other artist.

Given her domination of the Billboard charts, it is fitting that she is being honored with the prestigious Icon Award. Carey joins just a handful of previous Icon Award recipients like Janet Jackson, Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Cher, and more.

The 2019 Billboard Music Awards air live on NBC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday, May 1, at 8 pm ET/PT.
