Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Unveils 2022 Nominees: Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Eminem, & More

Today (February 2), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2022 nominees, unveiling the 17 acts that are up for induction into this year's Rock Hall Class. Of the 17, five will ultimately be chosen for induction.

Beck, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, Devo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest, Dionne Warwick, and Dolly Parton are all nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022.

Regarding the ballot, John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said, "This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture. Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed."

Beck, Eminem, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, A Tribe Called Quest, Carly Simon, and Dolly Parton are all first-time Rock Hall nominees this year, although several of them have been eligible to be inducted for decades. The Rock Hall’s rule is that an artist must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years earlier than the year of their nomination. This means Eminem scored a nomination in his first year of eligibility, similar to Rock Hall 2021 inductee Jay-Z.

2022 marks multiple nominations for several artists. It's the sixth nomination for Detroit rockers MC5; fourth for Rage Against the Machine; and third nom for Kate Bush, Judas Priest, New York Dolls, Eurythmics, and Devo. This is also the second nomination for Dionne Warwick, the late Fela Kuti, and Pat Benatar.

The Rock Hall inductees are decided upon by a body of more than 1,000 artists, industry members, and historians. However, humble music fans have some sway in the selection process. You can vote for your favorite nominees every day at vote.rockhall.com until April 29 or at the museum in Cleveland. The five artists who receive the most votes of the 17 nominees will comprise a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied among the other ballots to decide the Class of 2022.

The Rock Hall Class of 2022 will be unveiled in May 2022. The ceremony itself will be taking place at a to-be-announced date and location this fall.
