Rosanne Cash Awarded MacDowell Arts Medal

The MacDowell artist colony has recently announced that Rosanne Cash is being awarded this year's Edward MacDowell Medal, which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to American culture.

The medal has previously been awarded to Toni Morrison, Stephen Sondheim, Georgia O’Keeffe, Leonard Bernstein, Joan Didion, and more. Cash is the 61st recipient of the award.

Regarding the honor, the singer-songwriter said, “I do not place myself in any way equal, but I accept this honor with deepest gratitude, as an encouragement to do my best work, and in the service of future inspiration. My heart is full with this precious recognition.”

There will be a ceremony to formally honor Cash. The ceremony, which has been postponed to Aug. 8, 2021 due to the coronavirus, will take place at the 450-acre MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire.
