Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have announced a release date for Silk Sonic's debut album. Titled An Evening with Silk Sonic, the record is slated to drop November 12, according to social media.
The release comes earlier than expected. In an interview with Rolling Stone this summer, the artists revealed they would push the record to early 2022, as they were still “touching up" the album.
“We’ve got the bones of most of the album, so it’s really about touching up parts that need a little more...grease,” Mars remarked.
“Which could mean redoing the song from scratch!” .Paak jokingly added. “Being here for another three years!”
Fortunately, adding the "grease" took less time than Mars and .Paak initially thought. The album will arrive about nine months after Mars and .Paak unveiled Silk Sonic and premiered their first single "Leave the Door Open" at the Grammy Awards back in March. They also released the minute-long single "Silk Sonic Intro" that same day. Four months later, the duo released another hit single, "Skate."
Mars and .Paak explained Silk Sonic was a passion project that had its genesis during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
“I’m not sure we would have done it if it wasn’t for the pandemic,” .Paak told Rolling Stone. “It was tragic for so many people, but Bruno would have probably been on the road, me too — but we had to be here (in the recording studio) … So we’d just come here every night, have a drink, and we play what we love.”
While a tracklist and featured artists have yet to be revealed (save for Bootsy Collins, who appears on "Silk Sonic Intro" and is the project's "special guest host"), An Evening with Silk Sonic is available to pre-save and pre-order.
