It's the last time fans will get to monkey around. Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith, the surviving members of the Monkees, have announced a two-month farewell tour that will begin this fall. They promise it will be “a magical night of music: all the hits, deep cuts and fan favorites."
The tour will begin September 11 in Seattle and travel across the United States before wrapping up in Kansas City, Missouri in November. Some of the dates are rescheduled from the band's 2020 tour, which was planned before the pandemic caused cancellations. Tickets for the new tour will be available for pre-sale May 5 and go on sale to the general public on May 7.
With this final tour, the Monkees will end the final chapter of their story. Originally a made-for-television boy band, the Monkees exploded in popularity during the 1960s.
They had four consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 between 1966 and 1967 and had a slew of Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including the chart-toppers "Last Train to Clarksville," "I'm a Believer," and "Daydream Believer." The Monkees disbanded in 1971 but had several reunion tours and even released new records. Singer Davy Jones passed away in 2012, while bassist Peter Tork died in 2019.
The Monkees' most recent music is the 2018 holiday album Christmas Party and the 2020 live album The Monkees Live: The Mike and Micky Show.
