Tom Hanks Curates Rock DJ Set in Celebration of 65th Birthday

How do you celebrate your birthday when you're Academy Award winner Tom Hanks? DJ an online radio station, of course.

On July 9, Tom Hanks helped curate an hour-long DJ set of obscure rock 'n' roll songs for the independent radio station Boss Radio 66. Towards the very end of the set, Hanks joked, “It’s gonna be a b****in’ year! 66!”

The special set, titled "Songs From The Back Of The Station Wagon,” was produced by Johnny “Big Hand” Bartlett. It shouldn't come as a surprise to fans that Tom Hanks has an affinity for music, since he was the director and star of the pop band comedy film That Thing You Do! Hanks' selections on Boss Radio 66 show off his knowledge of 50s' and 60s' rock, surf, and soul tunes. It's more than just Fats Domino and Elvis Presley - listeners are privy to make some deep new discoveries.

Speaking of Elvis, Tom Hanks is playing a role in an untitled Elvis Presley project that is currently filming. The 65-year-old actor has actually been thriving after his coronavirus recovery back in the early days of the pandemic. In April, he and Steven Spielberg began production on Masters of Air - a follow-up series to 2001’s Band of Brothers and 2010’s The Pacific. Hanks is also set to play Geppetto in Disney's live-action version of Pinocchio.
