Twenty One Pilots have shared a new single called "Shy Away," the first to be released from their upcoming sixth album Scaled And Icy. After working on the album while apart, the Ohio duo will finally drop the project May 21.
The 11-track album, which will be released via Fueled by Ramen, was written and largely produced by Tyler Joseph. It was crafted over the course of the past year at his home studio while he was in isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Josh Dun engineered the drums remotely from across the country.
Scaled And Icy is “the product of long-distance virtual sessions and finds the duo processing their upended routines along with the prevailing emotions of 2020 – anxiety, loneliness, boredom and doubt,” as per a press release.
The duo teased the new album on social media back in January. Twenty One Pilots' first new album in three years is the follow-up to their 2018 Platinum album Trench. The release of Scaled And Icy will be accompanied by their first-ever global streaming event, "Twenty One Pilots - Livestream Experience." The concert, which will screen on the album's release day at 8pm ET, will feature the duo's greatest hits as well as the live debut of some tracks from Scaled and Icy.
