A country legend and a beloved frog made history recently. Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion took place yesterday (March 14) at the artist's Texas ranch. At one point during the evening, Nelson performed “Rainbow Connection” with the Muppet behind the hit song: Kermit the Frog.
Kermit the Frog released his iconic “Rainbow Connection” in 1979, and the tune was added to the National Recording Registry in 2021. The track has been covered many times, including by Willie Nelson. He first offered his rendition of the song on 2001’s Rainbow Connection. Nelson then performed the song with Kacey Musgraves at the Country Music Association Awards in 2019.

Nelson's Luck Reunion featured more than just Kermit. The "Highwayman" artist announced his new album The Border, which is out May 31. So far the title track has been released. ("The Border" is a cover of Rodney Crowell’s 2019 Texas song.) The vinyl edition of Nelson's upcoming album is also available for pre-order here.
Over the years, Kermit the Frog has performed with a number of other artists – including Tori Kelly, Debbie Harry, Steve Martin, Queen Latifah, and John Legend. The latest Muppets show to be released is The Muppets Mayhem, which is available to stream on Disney+
