Rock group Band Of Horses have announced their first new album in five years. Titled Things Are Great, the 10-track record is set to be released January 21, 2022, and the lead single "Crutch" is out now.
Frontman Ben Bridwell talked about the new single in a statement. “I think like a lot of my songs, "Crutch" starts with something from my real life," he said. "Obviously "Crutch" means some of the things that I was dependent on. My relationship for one. I think I wanted to say, ‘I’ve got a crush on you,’ and I thought it was funny how relationships also feel like crutches."
“I feel like everybody has had a time when nothing goes right and you still have to carry on," he continued. "I think that feeling hits you in this song even if you don’t know what the specifics are.”
Things Are Great is set to be Band Of Horses' sixth studio album and is the follow-up to their 2016 project Why Are You OK. The former lineup of Bridwell, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey, Bill Reynolds, and Creighton Barrett was together several years and recorded three albums, including Why Are You OK. However, that lineup ceased when Ramsey and Reynolds departed in 2017. Matt Gentling and Ian MacDougall now replace the two former members and are set to play on the new album.
Next week, the band will embark on a short run of United States tour dates. Tickets are now available to purchase. Additionally, Things Are Great is available to pre-save on streaming services.
